MYMA is starting !

Kick Off Meeting

The project financed by the European Union opens with an international meeting between partners in Brussels, the 1st-2nd-3rd March 2023. EACEA tutor Silvia D’Elia joined the delegations of the cooperating bodies.

The project, co-financed by the European Union within the “Creative Europe” programme, aims to promote an innovative approach to the use of the mask in European theatre, rediscovering its anthropological origins and re-launching its use in the performing arts, in order to restore the collective ritual dimension to the theatre in which to rediscover a new strong relationship with the myth.
The leader of this ambitious project is the “Compagnia dei Folli” of Ascoli Piceno, in partnership with the prestigious “Center for Masks and Gestural Structures Amleto and Donato Sartori” of Abano Terme (Padua), the international association “Open Street Aibsl” based in Brussels (Belgium), the “Cirq’O Vent” company of Montreuil-sur-Mer (France) and the “Proscenium” company of Gliwice (Poland), in association with the Fondazione Centro Studi Città di Orvieto.

“MYMA – Myths and Masks for the future” includes in the activity plan a program of scientific research and seminars on the mask and on the dramaturgy of the myth, under the coordination of the Centro Maschere Sartori. There will also be creative residencies and training sessions on masks, land art, urban masking and theatrical technique, hosted in Italy by the Compagnia dei Folli, in France by Cirq’O Vent and in Poland by Proscenium. The three companies will then be the protagonists of new creations which will see their official debut in 2025.

Each company, starting from its own artistic research, will work on creation of an innovative production. The project will develop over three years, and in each year it will culminate in the organization of a new edition of MYMA Festival, in Montreuil-sur-Mer (FR) in 2023, in Opole (PL) in 2024 and in Ascoli Piceno in 2025.
